Family Story:

Duncan was born June 23, 1899 Lilydale to parents Thomas Eales and Jane Margaret Mc Eachran. They built a home ‘Cromarty” Belle Vue Street Lilydale, and had 4 sons and 2 daughters.

Before the war, Duncan spent 18 months in the S. Cadets 48b at Camberwell and 6 moths in C Forces 48th at Surrey Hills.

Duncan’s occupation after the war was as a solicitor, and in February 1936 he married Leila Margaret Ball, at St.Johns Church Toorak. They had a son Duncan born in 1941. Duncan died June 24, 1984 aged 85 years and is buried at Lilydale as were his parents. Leila celebrated her 100th year in 1999, she was born May 4, 1899 London.

Thomas known as Tim was born 1896 in Camberwell to parents Thomas Eales and Jane Margaret McEachran. He was educated at Camberwell Grammar School. Two brothers also served, Duncan McEachran Eales and William Eales, Two cousins died in WW1, John Brinsden Vasey and Gilbert Joseph Brinsden.
His father Thomas Eales was a well-known solicitor of Melbourne and Lilydale.

After the war, William became an architect and on the December 9, 1939 he married Jean Dudley McLean at the Hartwell Presbyterian Church. Their two children (twins) William Grant and Jean Whiteway were born June 11, 1943. Jean died December 21, 1975 and was cremated at Springvale Cemetery. William died March 29, 1989 and was also cremated at Springvale Cemetery.

William was born August 30, 1887 in Cobrico near Cobden to parents Thomas Peter Errey and Elizabeth Ruth Wells. William had 7 brothers and sisters: William Henry, Martha Mary, Thomas Peter, James Henry, Jane Mercy Alice, Elizabeth Ann Ruth and Margaret Hannah Errey.

At the time of his enlisting in 1915, William was a nurseryman and Edith was post mistress at Hazeldean, near Warburton. After the way they moved to Warburton Road Lilydale. William had married Edith Mary Hirons in 1910, and they had 6 children Edith Hazel (b) 1911 (Eldridge), Kathleen Phyllis (b) 1912 (Lanning), Ivan Gilbert (b) 1921—He served in WW2 and died New Guinea 1945, Lillian Eileen (b) 1919 (Moss), Ethel (Genat) and Winsome (Coates).

William was member of Lilydale RSL, and he died July 10, 1969 at Heidelberg, and was cremated at Springvale Cemetery.
