Biography:
Thomas Addis was the only son of James Addis and was born in Gloustershire, England. When 10 he came to Australia with his family and settled initially in Camberwell. He moved to Lilydale 26 years ago about 1884) and established his butchering business.
He married Annie Goodall at St James Cathedral Melbourne and they had three daughters. His sister was Elizabeth Baker, a former licensee of the Olinda Hotel, Lilydale.
While working Mr Addis was caught in a shower of rain which led to a cold then pleurisy and his death.
The pall bearers were Messrs W. and G. Williams, W. and M. Supple. [Lilydale Express 21-04-1899 pg2]
Thomas Addis’ death notice states he died on April 15 and was interred at Lilydale Cemetery on April 16. His wife was Annie Addis and his only sister was Mrs E. Baker of Auburn. [The Argus 18-04-1899]
Addis, Anne
Biography:
Annie Goodall married Thomas Addis at St James Cathedral Melbourne and had three daughters – Mrs T. Chandler, A.E. and A.I. Addis.
Obituary:
Mrs Addis, one of the oldest and most respected residents of the district, and relict of the late Thomas Addis, died her residence, Lilydale on Saturday last, after a long and painful illness. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the local cemetery. Rev. Keith Forbes conducted the burial service and the mortuary arrangements were carried out by Messrs Burton and Sons. The deceased lady, who was 55 years of age, leaves three daughters to mourn the absence of a loving mother, and for them widespread sympathy is felt. (Lilydale Express 06-11-1903 pg 2 and 3.)

Bridget Ahern
Magisterial inquiry:
On Thursday a magisterial inquiry was held by Mr W. Laidlaw JP into the circumstances surrounding the death of Bridget Ahern who was found dead in her bed at Mooroolbark on Wednesday April 30th . . . William Lyons said on oath that he was living with his aunt. He assisted her in the general farm work. She had been complaining of a pain in her side and on evening of 29th asked him to heat bricks for her feet as they were very cold. Before he retires she said she felt better. About 6.30 the next morning he went to her room and found her dead. There was no sign of a struggle. Dr W. H. Dutton made a post mortem examination. There were no external signs of violence. The lungs showed old traces of chronic bronchitis . . cause of death was fatty degeneration of the heart. . . [ Lilydale Express 03-05-1890]

Biography:
Maurice Ahern was from County Cork, Ireland and established his 217 acre farm known as The Pines in Mooroolbark. It was bounded by Hull, Taylor and Cambridge roads. He built the original homestead and the mixed farm boasted barns, brick silos, milking sheds. The orchard had Kentish cherries while crops to feed the dairy and fat cattle were also grown on the property. He married Elizabeth Brice and they had six children. Biography:
Born Elizabeth Brice she was born in County Cork Ireland, the daughter of John Brice who had taken up property in Hull Road, Mooroolbark. She was described as straight, erect and handsome in appearance. She drove her phaeton until just before her death. Of her six children only the eldest child Mary Ellen. Biography:
Margaret Brown was born in Stewarts Town, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. She sailed for Australia in 1866 on Queen of the South. She met and married William Smith Aitken in central Victoria. They took up land in Beenak Rd, Wandin becoming orchardists. [Wandin its Orgins and Early Development]
