Nicholas Gaudion was born in Parish St. Samson, Guernsey on August 2, 1821. He and his wife Mary LePage arrived in the Melbourne in February 1852 aboard the Joshua. After initially working for Paul de Castella at Yering Station he tried his luck on the Bendigo and Avoca goldfields. In 1855 in partnership with John Rouget he leased a portion of Yering Station from Paul de Castella where the two families spent 12 years farming and dairying. In 1867 he settled in Wandin selecting land with frontages to Beenak and Quayle roads and settled at Wandin Yallock in 1855 where he established an orchard. He always took an active part in all matters connected with the district. For many years he held a seat on the school Board of Advice and was also a trustee of the Methodist Church. He leaves a widow and four sons and two daughters to mourn their loss – Nicholas, Daniel, John and Thomas, Lydia (Mrs J. Hunter) and Emily (Mrs A. Watson).
