Bob was a great favourite with all whom he came in contact, and his loss is very much regretted.’

Family Story:
Bob was born 1897 Yering to William and Sarah Lawlor. He attended both the Lilydale and later Buxton Sate Schools, after his family moved to ‘The Oaks’ Buxton. He was only 19 years of age (family permission) when he joined up, and in a letter sent home in January 1918 he states ‘that he fired his very first shot of the great war on Christmas day 1916 with a Lewis Gun.’ He was well liked on his community and greatly esteemed in sporting circles, attaining high honors as a cricketer and tennis player. Tom was born Thomas Henry Everard in 1890 in St Kilda to parents Thomas Leach and Louisa Baudier, late of Warburton, he had siblings Cissy (b) 1885 St Kilda, Florence Ellen (b) 1892 Lilydale and Walter Joseph (b) 1895 Lilydale who also served in WW1 (2897) and was KIA.
He was the nephew of Mr H Leach, well known merchant of Main Street Lilydale. Tom married while on leave in England, to Ethel Padgett February 26, 1919 at the Christian Meeting House Leicester England. On return to Australia he continued as a carpenter living in the Preston, Northcote areas, they had a son John Henry Leach. Tom died July, 31, 1968 at Heidelberg and was cremated at Fawkner Cemetery.

William was born 1894 in Longwood Victoria to parents Edwin Long and Mary Robertson Simpson, He enlisted at Bendigo aged 20 years with his mother’s permission, as his father had died in 1900. His mother was living in Silvan when William died of wounds and typhoid in 1915 in Malta.

Family Story:
Arthur known as Herbert was born in 1895 in Derby in England to parents Edward Lowe ( mother unknown) When he enlisted in 1916 he was working as a farm labourer at rleen Point Yeringberg ( William James Lewin), he also worked at some stage for the Syme Family. He must have worked up in the Kamarooka area (near Bendigo) as he is listed on the Kamarooka Memorial Roll, and was given a medal and an illuminated address from the Shire of East Loddon. Herbert Lowe died in November 1940 in the Lilydale Bush Nursing Hospital following an illness of only one week, he was buried at Wesburn Cemetery. A pioneer of the district of Lilydale and Woods Point, travelling was done on horseback. He left a wife and a daughter (Mrs Joyce Farrington of Warragul?).

Family Story:
Bill was born in Lilydale 1891 to parents William and Maggie Lysaght, he had a brother George Stanley who also served in WW1 (301). He married Myrtle Evelyn Sarah ? , after returning home and they had six children. Thelma Jean, Audrey, Betty, Wilma, Terrence John and William Thomas. Bill died 15th January 1961 aged 70 years, and Myrtle 7th August 1968 they are both buried at Lilydale in graves 6779/6161.
