The passing of Mr John Hamilton at Yarra Junction…removes another pioneer of the Yarra Valley. A member of the Lilydale Hamilton family, Jack was brought up to hard work and at an early age had teams of horses contracting on the road. A keen judge of horses, he always had good animals and gave them the attention that all horse lovers do….Though retired, he kept a good horse to the last……[Lilydale Express 19-12-1946]

William Hand
Biography:
William Hand arrived in Melbourne with his family on board the Andromache in June 1840.
Obituary:
We regret to announce the death of Mr William Hand which occurred at the residence of his son Mr Henry Hand. He was a native of Nottinghamshire and arrived in this colony in 1840. After residing in Melbourne for some years, he went in for farming pursuits with his sons at the Red Hill, near Lilydale. He together his his sons had a nice orchard and vineyard, selling out after ten years. His sons started the business cnr Main and Castella streets now Dawborn and Morey. Mr Hand was a member of the first Road Board which met at Brushy Creek, but since then he has never taken an active part in public affairs. Mr Hand, who was 74 years of age, had been ailing for some time, but his death was not altogether unexpected. He had four sons, viz., Mr Henry Hand of Lilydale, Mr J. Hand of Seville. Mr W. Hand of Woori Yallock, and Mr T. Hand late shire engineer who died about 18 months ago. . . . [Lilydale Express 02-11-1889]
