Family Story:

Tom was born 17th July 1877 in Yering to parents John Kerr and Elizabeth MacIntyre, both very early prominent families of Lilydale and Coldstream/Yering. John came to Australia on the Red Jacket 1857. He was one of ten children and attended the Yering State School and later the College of Box Hill (now Kingswood). Tom was a bachelor of nearly 39years when he enlisted and never married, taking over the family dairy farm on return from the war. He died at home in Yering “Olinda Yarra” .

Ernest was born 1890 in Euroa to parents Frederick and Emma Amelia Kerslake His parents had been separated for several years, and he was living in Euroa with his mother when he enlisted.

His father was living c/- Mrs RL Clarke (his half-sister) in Nicholas St. Lilydale. Ernest was killed in action in France March 6, 1917.

Frank was born 1891 in Burton on Trent England. His mother Mrs SA Ketteridge was living in Manchester England. He boarded with Mrs R Fisher of Clark Street Lilydale. In his will he left everything to his friend Miss Charlotte Fisher of the same address. Charlotte died July 4, 1921 at Lilydale.

Family Story:

Archie was born in 1894 Smeaton to parents John James Kilfoyle and Louisa James Harvey. He had siblings – Ethel (b) 1885, Herman Stanley (b) 1889, Myrtle (b) and (d) 1892 Bonnie Doon, Vera (b) 1896, all other children were born in Smeaton.

The Lilydale Express newspaper July 16, 1915 states he was the first in the Mooroolbark area to join up. He was a partner in a dairy farm with Ernest Bellion (Lilydale Express August 6, 1915)

Archie’s sister Ethel was married to Ernie. (Argus April 3 1917).

Robert was born 1885 in Sorrento, his mother Mrs G.H. King lived Anderson Street Lilydale. On return from the war he married Ellen and they are both buried at Lilydale Cemetery, Robert on August 4, 1971 aged 86 years (Reg. No. 7206), and Ellen on April 14, 1977 aged 96 years (Reg. No.8407).

Cyril was born 1887 in Richmond to parents August Heinric Kuster and Anna Josephine Fredricka Wolf. They came to Lilydale about 1916 and lived at “Beaumont” Lilydale. (BDM)

Cyril married Mary (Minnie) Victoria Tapping May 19, 1919 at the Presbyterian Church in Albert Park. They had two boys – Ernest and Alexander, birth dates not known. Cyril died at Mornington 1947 aged 60 years and was buried in Mornington Cemetery on January 8, 1947. Minnie died 1979 aged 92 years and was buried with Cyril.
