Family Story:
Leopold was born in Malaga Spain on 19th February 1881. Father was Boniface Navas and mother Dolorez. He came out to Australia from Liverpool 18th October 1910 and was naturalized 16th January 1914. He lived at Werribee and Ballarat before coming to Lilydale.
He married Gwladys Mary Weeden (Military Marriage Cert.) at St Michaels Church Abertillery Monmouth Wales on August 16, 1918 after returning to the UK wounded.
The had a son Leo Albert who was born at Lilydale in 1920 and another son Thomas Weeden wo died at Lilydale aged 1 yr in 1919. He was probably born in England.
After the war Leopold returned to Lilydale living in the Main Street. He is listed as a laborer and also an upholsterer. He was living in Box Hill in 1925 and must have moved to New South Wales some time after this. Leopold died in 1929 in Randwick, New South Wales.

Family Story:
Arthur was born 1891 in London England to parents Harold and Emma Harriet Newman. In 1930 an Arthur Frederick Newman married Mary Shaw. (BDM)
After the war he was living in Mt Eliza when he requested his Gallipoli Badge, (Army pg 32). He was cremated at Springvale November 28, 1960 Melaleuca M10 Bed 2 Rose 38.

Family Story:
Harry was born May 24, 1890 Drysdale near Geelong to parents Frederick Charles Niblett and Mary Ann White. He was one of 13 children. After the war he became a farmer, and married Daisy Elizabeth Miller on March 25, 1919 in Geelong and had children Donald James, Sheila Jean, Elizabeth Mary, Ian Alfred, Moira Fernside, Peter Charles and Sophia.
He farmed in the Drysdale, Queenscliffe and Kawarren areas on the Bellarine Peninsula. Harry died on March 8, 1981 in Geelong and is buried in the Queenscliffe Cemetery.

Family Story:
James Dolan, real name: Andrew Clarence Noden, was born 1899 Lilydale (not 1895 as stated on service records – he was only 17yrs and went without parental permission, and under an assumed name) His parents were William John Noden and Rachel Murray of Lilydale. (Service Records pages 31 and 50).
His father William ran a Tannery business in Lilydale and they had children as follows – Sarah Rose b. 1878 , Mildred Eliza b. 1880, Mary b. 1881-1881, Wilhelmina Mabel b. 1882; Rachel Nellie b. 1885; William Henry John b. 1886-1970 married Annie Trenkner; Ralph Murray b. 1891 (served WW1 3208), Wesley John b. 1892 (served WW1 7557); Charles George Rosamond b. 1895-1962 (served WW1 20) married Daisie Maud Hardie; Horace Henry b. 1897; Andrew Clarence b. 1889; Cyril Ronald b. 1903-1969; Hector George Leonard b. 1904.
Andrew married in 1924 to Marjorie Iris Scully. It is not known if they had family or where they died and were buried. His parents William John died 1924 at Lilydale and Rachel died 1914 at East Melbourne. Both are buried at Lilydale Cemetery.

Family Story:
Charles George Rosemund Murray Noden was born in 1897 Northcote to parents William John Noden and Rachel Murray. He was one of 14 children, 6 girls and 8 boys. Three other brothers served with Charlie, Ralph Murray (3208) KIA, and Wesley John (7557). Andrew Clarence enlisted under age with the name James Dolan.
The Noden family lived in Main Street Lilydale and ran a tannery business from1906 until late 1930s/early 1940s. When it closed William Henry owned 2/3 and Cyril 1/3. The tannery site was sold in September 1950 to Bernard Edward Grover. Rachel died in 1914 and William John in 1924 both are buried in Box Hill Cemetery.
Charles married Daisy Maude Hardie in Northcote on December 2, 1916. They had one son, Charles George Noden (b) 1917. The couple divorced in 1942 and Charles married Jean Janet Forbes.
He was a carpenter, a tanner and later a Bus Proprietor. (The Lilydale Tannery, S.Thompson) In 1961 Charlie was living 1 Seabreeze Ave Ferny Creek. He 27th May 27, 1962 and is buried in Box Hill Cemetery.

The Noden family lived in Main Street Lilydale and ran a tannery business. Ralph was killed on the front in France. The location of his grave near Pozieres is not really known. His name is on the memorial at Villers Bretonneux France.

Wesley was born 1892 Richmond Victoria to parents William John Noden and Rachael Murray. He was one of 14 children, 6 girls and 8 boys. Two brothers also served, Charles George (20) and Ralph Murray (3208) who was killed in action.
His family lived in Main Street Lilydale and ran The Lilydale Tannery from 1906 – early 1940s. Wesley married 1926 in New South Wales to Rubina MacPhee and remained a baker, he died on May 14, 1954 in Randwick New South Wales.

Family Story:
Frank was born 25th June 1893 Lilydale to parents Dr.William Perrin Norris and Mary Jane Foulkes. He had the nick names of “Dum: from Dumorix at school, and Bill at home. Frank (Bill) had two brothers John Drummond Norris (b) 1890, and Charles Arthur Drummond. His father Dr. William Perrin Norris was the local doctor in Lilydale in the 1890s.
Frank was educated at Melbourne Church of England Grammar School, and while studying at university he enlisted in 1914. He served in the Middle East (Egypt) as a medical orderly, and by 1916 he was back in Melbourne to resume his medical studies.
In 1923 he joined the Citizen Military Forces and was posted to the 2nd Cavalry Field Hygiene Section.
At the outbreak of WW2 he enlisted in the 2nd AIF commanding the 2/1st Casualty Clearing Station in the Middle East and Syria. In 1943-5 he served in Papua New Guinea and was the first Senior Australian Officer to cross the Owen Stanley Ranges on foot, and served for 3months on the Kokoda Track. He was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire, returned to Australia in 1944.
In 1957 Frank Kinsley Norris was knighted for services to medicine. His autobiography was “No Memory For Pain”.
Frank died 1st May 1984 Camberwell aged 90 years and is buried in the Box Hill cemetery.
