Obituary:
Our Woori Yallock correspondent writes:- By the death of Mr. J. Ferguson on the 19th inst., this district has lost one of its oldest and most highly esteemed residents. The deceased, who suddenly passed away from this life after a very short illness, came to the locality some 35 years ago, and was well known and respected in all the surrounding districts. To the last he was always to the fore when any gathering was held, and took a keen interest in anything that would better the district. The large cortege which followed the remains to their last resting place at Lilydale showed the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow and family of the deceased. [Lilydale Express 29-01-1915]

The serious accident which befell Mr. J. Fraser, son of Mr. D. Fraser, of Black Springs, on Saturday week last, had a fatal termination on Friday evening last. Mr Fraser was found just after the accident, lying unconscious on the road, and it was evident that the pony he was riding had bolted with him, and caused him to strike his head against a tree on the roadside. From the first, only the faintest hopes were entertained of his recovery, and he passed away as started above. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon last to the Lilydale Cemetery, the cortege being one of the largest ever seen in Lilydale, and representatives were present from Warburton, Yarra Glen, Ringwood, and the surrounding district. The deceased was well known and universally esteemed, and the very greatest sympathy is expressed for the bereaved family, who are well known throughout the shire. [Lilydale Express 10-11-1916]
